Knee Osteoarthritis Program

PROTx is proud to offer a unique multi-phase program for Nova Scotians dealing with Knee Osteoarthritis.

What is Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is a condition in which the natural cushioning (the cartilage) between joints wears away. The bones of the joint will then rub more closely against one another with less of the shock-absorbing benefits the cartilage normally provides. This contact causes pain, swelling, stiffness, decreased ability to move and, occasionally, the formation of bone spurs.

Osteoarthritis occurs most often in the knees

Frequently Asked Questions

You do not require a doctor’s referral to attend physiotherapy, chiropractic or massage therapy. However, if you intend to use your health insurance to cover the cost you should confirm your insurers policy as some may ask you for a doctor’s referral.

Your therapist will perform an assessment. You will be asked a series of questions that will help better describe all of your symptoms in detail. This will be followed by an examination of the areas causing concern and associated areas. Following the assessment, the findings, your goals and available treatment options will be discussed.

A brace consultation generally takes less than 30 minutes. Follow up appointments are typically 15mins.
