Compression Stockings

Are your legs tired and heavy after a long day? Can’t wait to get off your feet?

You may be at risk for venous disease, but compression stockings can help!

Our body pumps approximately 7000L of blood throughout the day.  In your legs, the two main mechanisms to get blood back to the heart against gravity is your CALF MUSCLE PUMP and VENOUS VALVES.

When the valves weaken and do not close properly this begins the reflux of blood back into the legs and becomes stagnant and pools in the vein.  This is the beginning of venous disease.

Compression stockings provide external graduated compression starting at the ankle (100%) and decreasing levels towards the knee.  This external pressure improves blood flow and reduces reflux which means reduced symptoms or reduced risk.

If you have prolonged standing and sitting periods in your day, you may be at risk for venous disease due to these activities.

Venous pressure increases by 50-60 mmhg when seated and 90 mmhg when standing! Compression stockings help to alleviate this added strain on the venous system and provide PREVENTATIVE CARE.

WHY GRADUATED COMPRESSION?

  • Revitalize legs
  • Minimize the risk of developing and reduce symptoms of a venous disorder
  • Prevent blood pooling
  • Reduce swelling
  • Prevent formation of spider or varicose veins

Graduated compression acts as an external layer of muscle by gently squeezing the weakened vein and encourages normal
blood flow.
